Honest to Goodness Organic Australian Hulled Buckwheat is a nutritious, naturally wheat-free ingredient that is commonly used as an alternative to rice.
Despite the name, buckwheat is not actually a grain but a fruit seed that is related to rhubarb. Organic Australian buckwheat has a distinctive nutty flavour and can be cooked and served in a similar way to rice.
Australian buckwheat is rich in amino acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is a natural source of protein. This buckwheat is grown and packed on the Daman family farm on the northwest coast of Tasmania.
No GMO. Preservative and additive free.
HOW TO USE
Organic hulled buckwheat is extremely versatile and can be cooked and served whole or ground into a flour.
Buckwheat is often used to make crackers, bread and noodles. It is also a great substitute for rice and porridge.
Before cooking, buckwheat must be thoroughly rinsed under running water to remove any dirt or debris. Add one-part buckwheat to two parts water or broth. Bring to the boil then reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 30 minutes.
GROWING & PROCESSING
The buckwheat plant produces a seed that is 3-D triangular in shape and has a black hull. Hulled buckwheat has had the outer black layer removed, the resulting grain being yellowish in colour.
It is a low food miles crop, which is grown, harvested, hulled and packed, all on the certified organic Daman family farm, on the North-West coast of Tasmania.
No insecticides or pesticides are used during the growing process and no preservatives or additives are used during the processing of the grain.
