Cold-pressed from premium castor beans, our Honest to Goodness Castor Oil is a pure, natural oil that’s completely hexane-free – meaning no harsh chemicals are used in its extraction.
Derived from organic beans of castor seeds of the Ricinus communis plant, castor oil is one of the oldest cultivated crops on earth and its unique composition makes it a versatile ingredient in various applications, including skincare and hair care.
Castor Oil contains a range of quality antioxidants plus ricinoleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid- believed to have anti-inflammatory properties. This is commonly used to help calm itchy skin.
It also has quality emollient properties, which can help leave skin soft and smooth. As well as being great for skin, castor oil works wonders on the hair and scalp as it helps soften the scalp and may help improve the appearance of dandruff.
Our Organic Castor Oil is cold-pressed for maximum nutrient retention and free from nasty chemicals or solvents such as hexane (a compound used in the extraction of oils from vegetables).
Packaging: This 500ml bottle is a convenient size for regular use. It’s made from 100% post-consumer recycled PET (rPET) and is fully recyclable in your kerbside recycling bin. rPET is a plastic, not glass.
HOW TO USE
Organic Castor Oil is one of the few carrier oils that can be used as an emulsifying agent. In cosmetic applications, Castor Oil is used in creams and lotions, body butters, soaps and massage products. Super versatile, can be used several ways:
For Skin: Simply apply small amount of oil directly onto the skin and massage gently. For deep conditioning or treating larger areas, such as the scalp or hair, saturate a cloth or cotton pad with castor oil and place it on the area. Leave on for a few hours or overnight for maximum absorption.
Massage Oil for Skin/Hair: To create a hydrating massage oil, mix equal parts of Organic Castor Oil with Organic Coconut Oil or Organic Almond Oil for a hydrating massage oil. Depending on your preference and the area being treated, you can leave the oil on your skin or hair for a few hours or overnight. Alternatively, rinse and wipe off any excess when the massage is finished.
Note: Do not ingest. Keep out of reach of children. Always patch test on a small area of the skin before using. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if an adverse reaction occurs.
GROWING & PROCESSING
Our Organic Castor Oil is derived from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant, grown on certified organic farms in India. These farms follow strict organic standards, using no synthetic fertilisers or pesticides, to ensure the integrity of the plant and the environment.
Once harvested, the castor seeds are left to sun-dry. During this natural drying process, the outer hulls split open, allowing the seeds inside to be easily released. The seeds are then carefully collected and cleaned.
Oil extraction is carried out using a mechanical hydraulic press, without the use of solvents or chemicals. This cold-pressing method preserves the natural active compounds found in castor oil, while a double-filtration process ensures exceptional purity and quality. NO hexane is used in the extraction of the oil.
The resulting castor oil is pale yellow in colour and carries a mild, yet distinctive castor oil aroma.
