Vanilla powder is naturally concentrated, so you'll typically use less than traditional vanilla extracts or pastes. For every teaspoon of extract or paste you would normally use in a recipe, only half a teaspoon of vanilla powder is required.
Vanilla powder makes the perfect sprinkle topper for baked goods like chocolate chip cookies, doughnuts, or toast with its sweet, fragrant flavour. Add it to coffee or use it to infuse homemade pancakes, waffle mixes – the list is endless.
GROWING & PROCESSING
Our vanilla pods are cultivated organically, without the use of chemicals, fertilisers or other nasties. Once harvested, they are cured, which involves immersion in hot water to prevent them from fermenting. Next, they go through a sunning and sweating process to activate enzymes and develop the rich vanilla flavour and colour. Once activated, the pods are packed away for several months to allow the flavour to deepen. Finally, the pods are dehydrated and finely ground into vanilla powder.
The entire process can take up to 12 months and every part of the bean pod is used to make vanilla powder, so there is zero waste.
